Macros and Calories, what are they?

Image
Macros is a term we use in the bodybuilding and sports sphere to refer to the macro-nutrients we consume. macro-nutrients can be broken down into three categories, they are; protein, carbohydrates and fats. When it comes to building muscle, your macro-nutrients matter. They need to be checked and rechecked as you progress. A bad macro-nutrient profile will lead to weak or no gains while a good balanced macro-nutrient profile will lead to you maximizing your gains. To put this in perspective, I was always going to the gym and exercising but I had never had a solid six pack or shredded muscles. That was no fault of my workout plan, because while I was always a gym rat I was also a very active sports player. I did rugby, track and mixed martial arts growing up. In my younger days I thought eating a lot of food would translate to better muscle gains, but I was wrong, yes the bro science you here at the gym is crap. Eating a lot of the wrong foods only resulted in me gaining a bigger ...

My top ways to eat oatmeal

Image
I was asked to write about this by one of my personal training clients. She wanted to know how she could make oatmeal mainly for her breakfast. So I decided I would write about it here and share some of my top recipes with a larger audience. Oatmeal in my opinion is one of the most versatile food items you can have in your pantry. Steel cut oats also refereed to as Irish oatmeal and is the type that is most closely related to the original oat groat. If you like your oatmeal a bit chewy and nutty in flavor then steel cut oats are your best bet. They have a coarser texture than other forms of oats, they also take a longer time to cook. I tend to eat a lot of rolled oats ...

Why you should start dieting now and not tomorrow

Looking back one of the biggest mistakes I think I made in last years prep was in my diet. I didn't quite understand just how important meal timing and proportions were to my physique. Your diet plays a major role in getting your body from where it is now to where you'd like it to be. You could spend hours in the gym however if your diet isn't complementing your efforts in the gym then honestly you're just wasting your time and I wasted a lot if time. In my opinion if you aren't blessed with a body that allows you to eat whatever you want and still maintain a good fat to muscle ratio then you need to be looking at your diet. It just makes sense, why spend hours in the gym agonizing and suffering through your workout just to go home and ruin your progress with bad dieting? It's as if you're walking up on a treadmill that's going in the opposite direction. And for many people that treadmill is moving very fast. I think the reason many people ignore t...
